Ode to Viper!

The year was 1993,  I was a 13 year old kid with not a worry in the world other then what videogame I was going to play after school that day, truly carefree times in a carefree world.  Things have changed since I was 13 and the world is a far different place, but one thing remains the same until now.

When I was 13 I was transfixed with a car, it was a car I dreamed of owning everyday in my life and still to this day find excuses to and schemes to try and get one.  The car is the Dodge Viper, it was my dream car and still to this day one of the most elegant beasts of a machine I have ever seen, even now when I see one my head to watch it drive by.

It was with dismay that I learned earlier this year that the Dodge Viper was going to cease production, the day – this Friday July 2nd, 2010.  While Dodge does have plans to continue the Viper line later down the line it will never truly be the same in my eyes.  While the monster has changed its design a few times since inception it has always been true to the Viper feel and never disappointed me.  From the RT/10 to the ACR-X and all the off shorts and aftermarket creations the Dodge Viper has truly been a sports car enthusiasts dream car and is without a doubt one of the greatest creations Dodge has ever produced.  You will be missed my friend!

Sirius Radio Installed

After a few hours of sweating my ass off in a hot humid car I got my Sirius Radio installed.  It wasn’t difficult by any means but Texas summers are hot, humid and not something to be messed with, add to the that sitting in a car with no breeze doing all the work and you are covered in sweat in no time flat.

I installed the antenna above the read windows 3 inches from the glass as the instructions stated then used a plastic butter knife to run the chord down the rear glass and through the trunk.  As of now the wires are not ran in the best fashion, just tucked under plastic guards and a little bit of carpet.  Until you hit the front, I’ll need to stop and get some zipits and twist ties this weekend and then run the wires a little better.  As you can see it is quite a mess.

I am a little sloppy but the end result is being able to listen to Sirius 128 NASCAR Radio, which makes me a happy camper.  The little details can be fixed and made to look a little better.  I’ll maybe review the Radio later on but I need to get a few days with it first.

Let’s get Sirius

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to drive my Father In Laws 2009 Ford F150.  Not a state of the art exotic vehicle but it did have something I have not experienced before and that is Sirius Satellite radio.  I had been wanting to give it a try for Sirius NASCAR 128 alone so it was a bonus to be able to enjoy it for a few days.  I became addicted, so much so that I came home and signed up for the internet service, which sadly misses quite a few of the important channels I wanted but enjoyable nonetheless.

Tonight I finally purchased a real kit for the car.  The Sirius Status 6, is the newest version of the Sirius Status line and it was on sale at Walmart so I picked it up and will install it tomorrow.  Ill post pics and updates on it tomorrow and a review as well.

Beginning a Collection

I am at the beginning of a new obsession/hobby in the motorsport world.  I have always enjoyed building scale models of cars but am now taking my passion and combining it with my love of NASCAR.  I got a great deal on Revell Model Kit for the 2001 Monte Carlo for the #29 GM Goodwrench Service Plus car and since it is such a historic car in my opinion I have decided to assemble it rather then keep it in its box.  it deserves to be seen in its glory and that is what I plan on doing.  ill post regular updates on it as well.

Harvick Monte Carlo

I have also purchase a Diecast of the same car and my wife got me a Kevin Harvick display case with an authentic piece of Scrap Metal from one of Harvicks cars for fathers day along with a more recent Harvick Diecast with the Pennzoil CoT scheme.

Ill update with pics once I get the new Diecast.  The Monte Carlo was a great deal.  Got it for $9.99 on eBay form someone who obviously didn’t know the worth as it is going for about $70 right now.  I mean it was the car used after Dale Sr died.

Does Having One Driver Dominate the Track Hurt the Sport?

Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin.  All drivers who do or have in the past dominated the track.   Championships, the chase or just individual races one person winning consistently  has the potential to hurt the sport of NASCAR more then most other threats out there.  I want to know what you all think.

Do you think having a select group of drivers dominate every race can hurt or is hurting the sport of NASCAR?

Keeping Up

It is full on racing season.  This is no more apparent then when you sit down to plan your race schedule over the weekend and have a hard time trying to decide what to watch what to DVR and what is going to have to be seen only in the evening highlight reels.

This weekend is a dozy for sure with F1, Nascar and the 24 Hours of LeMans.  Unless your able to sit down and dedicated the whole weekend to watching racing something has to give.

This is what the weekend looks like for race fans:

Saturday, June 12

  • 24 Hours of Le Mans: The Start, 8:30 a.m o (Speed)
  • NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Brooklyn, Mich., 2 p.m., (Speed)
  • Formula One Qualifying, Canada, 4:30 p.m., (Speed)
  • 24 Hours of Le Mans, 6 p.m.-9:30 a.m., (Speed)
  • NASCAR Nationwide Series, 7:30 p.m. Sparta, Ky., (ESPN)

Sunday, June 13

  • Formula One, Canada, noon, (Fox)
  • NASCAR Sprint Cup, Brooklyn, Mich., 1 p.m., (TNT)
  • NHRA, Englishtown, N.J., 4 p.m., (ESPN2)

How do you keep up with all the races?

Kevin Harvick is The Devil

Let me preface this post with a couple of facts.  I do not hate Joey Logano I think he is a talented young driver and has a bright future in NASCAR.  Now on with the post.

HappyEvil Harvick

Today at the Gillette ProGlide 500 at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR fans were treated to what was mostly an uneventful and at times very boring race.  That all changed during the Final laps when an incident occurred between Kevin Harvick and Joey Logana.  When coming out of Turn 3 Harvick and Logano made contact sending Joey into a spin and taking him out of contention for the top 5.Needless to say Twitter and many other sites blew up with disgust at Harvick, calling it intentional and the like.

Is Harvick at fault?  I don’t believe so.  I have watched the video a few times now and every time it just looks like it was a byproduct of racing.  When you race for position things like this happen, and I can’t see how Harvick was doing anything intentional.  I Also don’t blame Joey for acting how he did,  I actually praise him.  Standing up for himself is going to go a long way to garnering him the respect he needs.

This is what NASCAR has been missing though,  a little excitement and drama to fuel the back-story of these races and give them the depth to keep people interested.  Just stop crucifying Harvick people.  If it was Dale Sr in Harvicks place all he would do is earn a nickname.

Why NASCAR Should be Worried

I am far from an authority in the field of broadcasting and I don’t claim to be but when a laymen like me sees a problem then you can rest assure that others can as well.  What problem are we talking about?  To put it plainly ratings sucked.  It was recently announced that the ratings for NASCAR on Fox were down substantially.  What the higher ups at NASCAR need to do is sit down and watch some of the Archived races they have from the mid to early 90’s and then watch what FOX is broadcasting now.

  1. There outcome will come out something like this.
  2. There were not so many blatantly placed marketing ads during the race
  3. There was no annoying commentators who talked out of there ass
  4. During a race we got to watch the race, not the same few cars the entire time.
  5. They need to to get of the nuts of Dale Jr.  He is not his father and most likely never will come close.
  6. Get off Danicas nuts  Yes she is a women she could do wonders for the sport, but she is also a walking cliche.

This is not a complete list of what is wrong.  I could go on all day and I am sure others can add to the list,  it is just a start.  I would rather put on some old school races and re-watch them sometimes but I don’t exactly have that option.  Here’s hoping TNT does a better job then fox.

One last thing DIGGER IS STUPID!
